Guided EXPERIENCES

Developing the Heart of the Leader

THE CAMINO LEADER JOURNEY

Solvitor Ambulando

The phrase Solvitur ambulando translates “It is solved by walking” and is there to remind each of us that not all challenges are solved at a desk or in the board room. Some counter-intutively require movement - stepping away from noise, walking with intention and allowing clarity to surface through experience rather than effort. On the Camino, this clarity emerges not through more thinking, but through the steady rhythm of your feet on the ancient pathway, in the quiet reflection and in actively engaging what matters most.

You are constantly shouldering the ‘up and to the right’ pressure and chasing the expectations of yourself and others upon you. It is not only okay to pause for a moment - it is necessary. We have designed a guided Camino experience for those like you in need of space to process your career, your leadership and your life by reconnecting with yourself and a curated group of peers in meaningful ways.

WHY & WHAT

A change of place + A change of pace = A change in perspective

This crafted journey involves daily reflective walking along the historic Camino de Santiago in Portugal and Spain, taking you through a variety of invigorating landscapes and settings. The journey includes peer processing, personalized 1:1 executive coaching, as well as necessary built-in space for restorative connection with yourself and others.

We will be walking along the enchanting Portuguese Inland route. Assembling in Porto (Portugal), we’ll take a brief bus ride north a bit in order to begin our 5-day, 70+ mile journey together into Santiago de Compostela. We will take a sixth day for rest and debrief in Santiago, Spain before returning home after this transformative experience.

I served in various levels of leadership within a multinational organization for 25 years before launching my business and leadership coaching practice in 2017. Along the way, I also co-founded several successful office and hospitality ventures. One critical lesson I have learned the hard way in all of my years of launching businesses and leading teams is that no one will force you to slow down. It is a conscious choice to ‘take a beat’ from time to time to recalibrate myself towards a better way. Today, I’m most proud of my work with mid- and upper-level leaders spanning from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. It is here that I’m able to live out my personal calling and mission statement, which is developing and guiding leaders towards a flourishing life in order to become a restorative presence for others across the street and around the world. My own Camino journey in 2023 had a transformational impact upon my life, my leadership, my relationships and my approach to work – and I’m now eager to walk alongside others who are seeking that meaningful change as well.

Barrett Harkins

I have served as a leader and executive director in a large international organization for the past 25 years in Central Asia, North Africa, Sweden, and Spain. In 2019 I walked my first Camino de Santiago and it forever changed my life, teaching me the wisdom of a counter-intuitive shift and the gift of slowing down, in order to go further and higher.. In 2022 I moved with my family from Uppsala, Sweden to Santiago de Compostela, Spain where I work with pilgrims along the Camino de Santiago in a variety of ways, from leadership development, to expanding non-profit work along the Camino de Santiago. I love leaders and know first-hand the immense burdens that they carry. It is my personal belief that we are at our best when we are at “play” in this world. My desire is to help leaders find that sweet spot of life and live it to the full, because when they live in that place their world around them is all the better. I have walked thousands of miles on the Camino and it never gets old, learning something different each time that I walk. I look forward to walking with you.
